Regisseur Seth Gordon, bekend van films als Horrible Bosses en Identity Thief, heeft laten weten dat de opnames van de Uncharted-verfilming begin 2015 van start zullen gaan. Mark Wahlberg, die eerder verbonden was aan de rol van Nathan Drake, zal niet in de film voorkomen. Gordon liet weten druk op zoek te zijn naar de geschikte hoofdrolspeler:
“I want it to be a great actor. That’s number one, and then if it’s someone who has an actual jaw, that’s even better. The game is so well done that you need it to live up to that. There’s no way we’d do the inverse of that where it’s somebody famous who can’t act.”
Verder laat Gordon weten dat hij het belangrijk vindt om de originele games te honoreren, maar tegelijk ook nieuwe dingen toe te voegen:
“The script will honor the mythology of the game through the most interesting stuff from the first one and build from there. I love the complexity and frankly the sophistication of the storytelling in the game, and we aspire to that – but don’t want to tell the exact same story, of course – so something that doesn’t break the rules of what it did but expands. Because I feel like the people who play the games and know them well don’t want to just see the same story told. You want extra shades.”
De verfilming van Uncharted is inmiddels al enige tijd onderweg. Oorspronkelijk was regisseur David O. Russel (Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle) aan het project verbonden. Toen deze in 2011 stopte kwam Limitless-regisseur Neil Burger in beeld, maar ook hij besloot eind 2012 dat hij zich niet langer met de film bezig zou houden.
Het is nog onbekend wanneer de film moet verschijnen, maar dit zou wel eens mooi kunnen samenvallen met de release van Uncharted 4 in 2015.
